History of Online Poker 

In the early days of online poker many players wanted to play and deposited freely, there were much fewer options at that point as well.  Let's face it, many of those players lost their buy-ins and eventually either left poker altogether or began playing free money.  As the free poker money crowd got bigger so did the need to turn those players into real money players.  In addition there was a whole new crop of players that just were not comfortable for one reason or another with the idea of depositing money on a poker site.

Why Free Money/Free Bankrolls make sense for sites 

For most of the players playing at play money tables right now there is an uneasiness, the sites want to give a bankroll to these people in an effort to comfort their fears.  The idea being obviously that if a player is comfortable they could possibly become a recurring customer.  That's really all there is to the story.  While some things that seem to good to be true are I think it is easy to see why it makes sense from the sites perspective.

It certainly seems like it should right?
